Board of Directors

The members of BioteQ’s Board of Directors are seasoned business professionals with extensive experience in strategic planning, corporate finance, and public company management.

The Board is responsible for the stewardship of BioteQ’s business affairs, and it meets regularly to review, discuss, and approve strategic direction and operational matters that are in the best interests of the company and its shareholders.

 

George Poling, B.Sc., Ph.D.

George Poling

Dr. Poling is Chairman of the Board of Intercontinental Potash Corp., and is Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Mining and Mineral Process Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Poling is one of Canada’s leading experts in mineral processing and environmental management of mining operations with special emphasis on effluent treatment, tailings disposal, waste solids handling, land reclamation and acid drainage control.

Jonathan Wilkinson

Jonathan Wilkinson joined BioteQ as Chief Executive Officer in October 2011. Mr. Wilkinson is a seasoned senior executive with extensive experience in the clean technology sector and in public markets. Mr. Wilkinson has previously worked in leadership roles with Nexterra Systems Corporation, QuestAir Technologies, and Bain & Company. While with QuestAir, Mr. Wilkinson spent six years as President and CEO of this publicly traded entity. A Rhodes Scholar, Mr. Wilkinson has obtained degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, Oxford University and McGill University. Mr. Wilkinson has also completed the Executive Development Program at the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.

Bruce Burton, C.A., M.B.A.

Bruce Burton

Mr. Burton is a seasoned financial professional with a distinguished career in the mining and resource industries. Over his 35 year career, he has held a number of senior executive positions, including CFO of Dundee Precious Metals, President of BlackRock Ventures, Acting President and VP Finance of Rayrock Resources, and President of Minera Rayrock. Mr. Burton is a Chartered Accountant, and holds an undergraduate degree from the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, as well as a Masters in Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business, York University. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, and the Financial Executives Institute. In addition to his directorship with BioteQ, Mr. Burton is also a director of Titanium Corporation, Continental Nickel Ltd., and GT Canada Medical Properties Inc.

Kelvin Dushnisky

Mr. Dushnisky is the former Vice Chair, General Counsel and a founding Director of EuroZinc Mining Corporation and was CEO of one of its predecessor companies. Mr Dushnisky is a former Vice President of Sutton Resources (acquired by Barrick) and was a Managing Director of Altara Securities (acquired by Berkshire Financial). Mr Dushnisky has held directorships with a number of public companies in the mining oil and gas, technology and hospitality industries.

Dr. Chris Fleming, Ph.D.

Dr. Fleming is a Ph.D. Chemistry major from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, who has spent much of his 37 year career in research and research management. He has authored or co-authored 70 technical publications, been awarded 14 patents, and contributed to several technical books on various aspects of extractive metallurgy. He emigrated with his family to Canada in 1990 to join Lakefield Research, and was intimately associated with the rapid growth in that company over the last 10 years. He became General Manager in 1992 and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer when the company was privatized in 1995, through a management buyout from Lakefield’s former owners, Falconbridge Ltd. After the acquisition of Lakefield Research by SGS, Chris took on the role of Vice President, Global Metallurgy, with technical responsibility for SGS Lakefield Research Limited’s world-wide metallurgical business. Chris has recently retired from SGS management, but continues in the role of Senior Metallurgist.

David Kratochvil, Ph.D, P.Eng.
President and Chief Operating Officer

David Kratochvil was appointed BioteQ’s President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2008. Previously, he served as BioteQ’s Vice President of Projects, responsible for overseeing the company’s engineering and development projects. Since joining the company in 2001 as Manager of Engineering, Dr. Kratochvil has been instrumental in the commercial development of the BioteQ’s process technologies, and has overseen plant design and operations. He holds a PhD from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, BioEngineering unit from McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Kratochvil has over 15 years of experience in the areas of wastewater treatment and chemical processing. Prior to joining BioteQ, he worked as the water treatment specialist for Rescan Environmental Services, one of the leading Canadian environmental consulting firms serving the mining industry worldwide. The highlights of David’s other work experience include research and development in papermaking and ion exchange industries in Montreal, process control in Toulouse, and phosphate fertilizer production in Turkey.

Clement A. Pelletier, B.Sc.

Clement Pelletier

Mr. Pelletier is a process chemist/metallurgist by training with fourteen years of direct industry environmental experience starting with Inco (Vale Inco) and subsequently with U.S. Borax (Rio Tinto) and Utah International (BHP Billiton).  In 1981, he founded Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. headquarted in Vancouver, British Columbia.  The company has grown to become an international firm providing environmental service to the metal and mining industry worldwide.  Mr. Pelletier is well-respected and recognized in the industry as an environmental expert.  He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.  He received a Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Proficiency Metal for environmental contribution to the mining and minerals industry.  Mr. Pelletier also served as a Distinguished Lecturer on “Environmental Issues in the Mining Industry” for the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.  He also led his firm with a Canada Export Award and three British Columbia Export Awards as well as being the first member of the British Columbia Export Hall of Fame.  Mr. Pelletier was honored to be recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year for Pacific Region of Canada.  His company has also been recognized as one of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada for the past 2 years.

Ron Sifton, C.A.

Mr. Sifton is a Chartered Accountant and recently was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Newalta Corporation, where he has played a senior management role from 1984 to 2010. With his guidance, Newalta grew from a small Alberta-based industrial waste management company to a Canadian entity with a major focus on resource recovery from waste streams and with operations from coast to coast. Mr. Sifton has extensive experience in finance and corporate reporting, insurance and risk management, treasury, commercial lending, taxation, corporate finance, investor relations and acquisitions.
